 Codex Title Screen

Puzzle-based history game show presented by Tony Robinson

Codex is a game show that takes place in the British Museum at night. Tony Robinson guides a team of five contestants around the museum as they solve puzzles and complete various challenges. Their ultimate objective is to "crack the codex".

A Partially deciphered Codex

The codex is a message written in a substitution cipher, so that each symbol in the codex corresponds to a letter of the English alphabet. For each challenge that the team complete successfully, more letters of the codex are revealed.

After every task, one member of the team is eliminated and the remaining team members carry on with the rest of the game. After the final task, only one player will remain. Before the end game, the eliminated players are gathered together and must attempt to "crack the codex". However, even if they do this correctly, the revealed message will be very cryptic. They must then relay this message by audio to the remaining player, who is in another room with various historical artefacts. Together, the team must decide to which of the items the codex refers. If they do this correctly, then they have won the game.

Codex was made by Diverse Television and broadcast on Channel 4 in 2006.
