What's in a Word Title Screen 

Series about words and their meanings

Tim Grundy explains the way in which English words got their meanings. Each programme is based around a theme, including:

  • Churches
  • Naval
  • Food
  • Furniture
  • Games
  • Horses
  • Houses
  • Farming
  • Writing

Each programme is recorded on-location somewhere in the UK, and Tim Grundy will usually walk around the setting as he explains how various words got their meanings.

What's in a Word was made and first broadcast in 1999. It is broadcast by Channel 4 and it is a Hamilton Television production. The research for the programme was done by Raymond Rush.
